Odell Beckham Jr. visits nine-year-old cancer patient in Texas

After being made aware that one of his biggest fans is fighting cancer, Odell Beckham Jr. visited the nine-year-old boy just before training camp starts next week.

Thanks to the power of social media, a radio personality in Texas was able to get the message out to Beckham Jr. that Jayro Ponce is battling a rare form of cancer and wanted nothing more than to meet his favorite player, as noted by James Kratch of NJ.com.

“Beckham visited Amarillo to fulfill Ponce’s wish several days after he was made aware of the situation on social media. A local radio personality posted an open message to Beckham on Facebook, and then Danny Richburg, the father of Giants center (and Amarillo-area native) Weston Richburg brought it to Beckham’s attention on Twitter.”

Beckham was made aware of this situation Tuesday, July 18, and immediately asked how he could “make it happen.” By Saturday, OBJ was in Amarillo, visiting Ponce at the Ronald McDonald House in the city.

According to Kratch, “Beckham frequently works with the Make-A-Wish Foundation in connection with the Giants during the season, and it appears his visit to see Ponce also involved the organization.”

We applaud OBJ and the Giants for making this young fan’s wish come true and wish him a speedy recovery.
