Lonzo Ball Summer League expectations: ‘Win the whole thing’

Magic Johnson's Lakers take Lonzo Ball No. 2 overall.

Whatever you may think about Lonzo Ball and his family, one thing we can say with certainty is that he’s a confident young man.

After being drafted No. 2 overall by the Los Angeles Lakers, his father, LaVar Ball, predicted they would make the playoffs next season. Taking a cue from dear old dad, when asked Wednesday about his expectations for the team’s Summer League, he was equally confident.

Based on what we saw from Philadelphia 76ers guard Markelle Fultz and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum in their Summer League debut, Ball and Co. certainly have their work cut out to “win the whole thing.”

Whether the Lakers’ Summer League team wins it all or not, it’s not a bad thing that Ball is setting high goals. Unlike his father, he’s generally pretty low key in terms of his personality and level of arrogance while maintaining a high level of confidence.

Heck, you want your players to have the belief they’re going to win it all. Otherwise, what’s the point?

It’s going to be interesting to follow the career of Ball. It all starts this Friday when the Lakers and Clippers get down to business at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
