Knicks GM Scott Perry has yet to meet with owner James Dolan

James Dolan

It’s possible that New York Knicks owner James Dolan is too busy performing with his band. Otherwise, this story seems to be something out of a stand-up routine. According to new Knicks general manager Scott Perry, he has yet to meet with Dolan.

“I have not met with him (Dolan) yet, but I’m looking forward to that,” Perry said, via ESPN.

How a team owner hires a top-level executive without meeting with him is beyond comprehension. For Dolan, that’s magnified a bit further due to his usual hands-on approach prior to the Phil Jackson era. Instead, Perry met with president Steve Mills throughout the hiring process.

The Knicks themselves have become a laughingstock over the past several years. That was only magnified this past season with drama taking hold off the court. Add in Jackson’s enigmatic presence and 31-51 record, and this past season was an absolute disaster for New York.

If Dolan has indeed decided to take a hands-off approach, that most definitely would be a good thing for the Knicks. But not being involved in the hiring of a general manager is a wee bit strange.
