Conflicting report suggests Derrick Rose to the Mavericks is not in the cards

Derrick Rose

Where will 2011 MVP Derrick Rose end up? Apparently, not with the Dallas Mavericks. While one report listed Dallas as a possible destination, another directly refuted that notion.

“Despite what might be emanating out of cyberspace, don’t get any ideas about Derrick Rose coming to the Mavericks,”Eddie Sekfo of Dallas News reported on Thursday. “A source said that the Mavericks are not in the market for Rose, even though they have had good success in the past with players coming off major injuries.”

While the former MVP’s prime would seem to be behind him, he’s actually one of the more interesting potential free agents left.

In some ways, the 2016-17 season was a disaster for Derrick Rose. The New York Knicks suffered through a miserable season that notably featured Rose briefly leaving the team without notifying anyone. So, it’s not surprising that the Knicks are unlikely to bring him back.

On the other hand, Rose averaged more points (18.0) and more minutes (32.5) per game than he had in any season since 2012.

He doesn’t make sense for a team like the Mavericks. Despite bringing Dirk Nowitzki back, Dallas is firmly in rebuilding mode. But a contending team in need of back court depth owes it to itself to give Rose a long look.
