Charles Barkley on Lakers making playoffs next season: ‘Hell no’

Charles Barkley

There is a ton of hype surrounding Lonzo Ball and the Los Angeles Lakers. Many are wondering if they might actually be good enough to make the playoffs. Just don’t count Charles Barkley among those who are of that opinion.

When approached by TMZ Sports, Barkley was asked if the Lakers are going to make the playoffs. His response was definitively negative: “No,” Barkley said. “Hell no.”

The TMZ reporter responded by asking, “Not even with Lonzo?”

Barkley, with an involuntary smile, once again emphatically said, “No.”

While the Chuckster often expresses opinions that can only be described as hot takes, we’re 100-percent behind him on this one. As impressive as Ball was in the Summer League — earning MVP honors and wowing with triple-doubles — the Western Conference is far too talented and deep for the Lakers to make an appearance in the postseason.

All eight playoff teams in the west won at least half of their games last season, and that’s not likely to change any time soon. The Lakers will be more competitive this upcoming season than they have been of late, and they’ll certainly be entertaining. But by no means are they a playoff team. That’s just a fact.
