Baylor University is primed to be the defendant in multiple lawsuits stemming from the assault scandal that has rocked the core of college football and amateur athletics over the past couple years. It’s a scandal that’s so in-depth and damaging to the school’s reputation that we have a hard time comprehending how the athletic program is going to overcome it moving forward.

Though, the first of said lawsuits has reportedly been settled.

“Baylor University is pleased that the parties were able to resolve this dispute in an amicable fashion,” a statement from the university read, via the Waco Tribune-Herald. “We are unable to comment further regarding this particular claim out of respect for the student’s privacy.”

This specific lawsuit does not include a named plaintiff. Accordingly, the settlement itself is not yet known.

All of these lawsuits (and likely settlements) are under the guise of the NCAA’s Title IX provision.

In this specific case, a former Baylor student claims she was drugged at an off-campus party and later assaulted at a so-called “rugby house.” She’s one of five women that claim to have been assaulted at that location.

The Waco Tribune-Herald goes on to report that Baylor faces five more lawsuits of this ilk here in the short term.
