Adolphus Washington’s lawyer motions to have gun charge dismissed

Adolphus Washington of the Buffalo Bills

Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Adolphus Washington was recently arrested on a concealed weapons charge during a disturbance at a waterpark.

In the police report regarding the arrest, Washington was accused of having “reached for and displayed a gun while sitting inside his vehicle, just feet away from officers.”

He was in court Monday and pleaded not guilty. Furthermore, Washington’s lawyer is pushing for the case to be dismissed.

“I believe the charges are factually and legally inappropriate,” Bennett said, per Mike Rodak of ESPN. “I don’t believe that Mr. Washington committed any crimes. That is why we have filed a motion to dismiss. Our intent and plan is to have the charges against him dismissed.”

Video of the exchange between Washington and police shows the defensive lineman wasn’t exactly being smart about it all. And that’s putting it mildly. In fact, he’s lucking things didn’t escalate in a very bad way.

Washington was a third-round pick by the Bills last year, appearing in 15 games and started 11, tallying 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He’s been targeted by some in the local media as a player the Bills are hoping will take on a larger role in his second season. Obviously, those predictions could be affected by what happens next.

After appearing in court Monday, Washington’s pre-trial hearing is set for August 1. He’s scheduled to report for Bills training camp on Thursday.
