Report: Spurs shopping LaMarcus Aldridge for lottery pick

LaMarcus Aldridge

It looks like the San Antonio Spurs will be going all in to sign All-Star guard Chris Paul in July. The team has already apparently placed Danny Green on the trade block.

Now comes this report from ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne and Michael C. Wright indicating that the Spurs are shopping LaMarcus Aldridge around the league in hopes of acquiring a lottery pick in return.

The two go on to indicate that San Antonio has talked to at least three teams about Aldridge. According to at least one report, the Sacramento Kings have emerged as a possibility for Aldridge.

Sacramento picks fifth and 10th in the first round on Thursday night.

The former All-Star is set make $21.4 million this upcoming season and has a player option for 2017-18. This past season saw him average 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

It’s highly unlikely San Antonio would be able to nab a lottery pick for Aldridge. But the attempt to trade him is more about moving salary for picks. It’s a way to get into position to sign Paul, who the Spurs have been linked to over the past month or so.
