Would the San Antonio Spurs be interested in Paul George as a one-year rental? According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Spurs, along with the Portland Trail Blazers, are “serious players in the Paul George race.” He notes the Spurs have a “real shot at him.”

But would the interest be mutual?

According to Kyler, yes. George would absolutely have interest in joining the Spurs. Though, as we’ve heard all along, he’s not ready to commit to any team longer than one year unless that team is the Los Angeles Lakers.

It’s unclear if the Spurs really have enough trade ammunition to land George away from the Indiana Pacers. Especially given the current climate in which his value is being inflated more than usual because so many teams are being pitted against each other.

However, if the Spurs are going to really have a legitimate chance to challenge the Golden State Warriors for the Western Conference crown in 2017-18, there might not be a better way to do it than by landing Paul George.

This is an interesting dynamic in what has already been one of the more fascinating developments early in the offseason. Ever since George told the Pacers he won’t be re-signing after the upcoming season, it’s been a free-for-all, with every team competing for a title trying to get in on this action.
