Report: Nets looking to package two first-round picks to move up

Nets Barclays Center

Most of the Basketball talk in New York City has surrounded the Knicks. And for good reason. Not only are the Knicks a complete dumpster fire, they have been the subject of multiple trade rumors.

Though, it does look like the Brooklyn Nets are attempting to get involved in the trade circuit heading into Thursday’s 2017 NBA Draft. Picking 22nd and 27th overall, Brooklyn is attempting to package both picks in an attempt to move up in the first round.

This is somewhat surprising considering Brooklyn finished with a league-worst 20-62 record this past regular season. The lack of talent on this roster seems to suggest that the team might attempt to acquire as many picks as possible. Remember, its original first-round pick (No. 1  overall) was sent to Boston in the Kevin Garnett-Paul Pierce trade.

It remains to be seen if any team picking ahead of Brooklyn would be willing to move down in order to acquire another pick. There’s also a scenario in play here that suggests the Nets might dangle former All-Star center Brook Lopez in a potential trade-up scenario.

It’s definitely something to keep an eye on as the draft gets going.
