Report: Father of Enes Kanter released from custody in Turkey

Enes Kanter

It’s been a week since Mehmet Kanter, father of Enes Kanter, was taken into custody by Turkish police after a raid on his home based on alleged links to U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen.

Thankfully, according to the Associated Press, Kanter has been released from custody.

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks for the Kanter family. The Oklahoma City Thunder center was himself detained by authorities at an airport in Romania last month after Turkey cancelled his passport.

Turkish authorities claimed Kanter was part of a terrorist group, otherwise known as those who oppose the seemingly dictatorial regime of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Thankfully Kanter’s father, a college professor, is now out of custody after spending five days under the supervision of the government.
