Report: Bills in ‘preliminary talks’ with Pro Bowl WR Jeremy Maclin

Jeremy Maclin

Tyrod Taylor is begging the Buffalo Bills to sign Jeremy Maclin, and LeSean McCoy is recruiting him as well. Now we’re getting word that the Bills are in preliminary talks with the free agent receiver, which could certainly lead to a deal in the near future if Maclin is so inclined to join them.

Maclin was shockingly cut by the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend for salary cap reasons.

The Bills drafted Zay Jones to replace Robert Woods, who left via free agency this offseason. Jones might be a high-volume guy and could end up becoming a star. But the Bills still need another reliable target, especially if Sammy Watkins continues to struggle with his health.

Buffalo would be smart to sign Maclin as soon as possible, if he’s interested in joining Taylor and McCoy. The Bills have just under $12 million in cap space, so there is plenty of room to make a deal happen. Maclin is still just 29 years old and would significantly boost the Bills’ ability to attack through the air.

He had a down year in 2016 due to injury but has been a remarkably consistent producer when healthy since entering the NFL back in 2009. As the No. 1 receiver for the Chiefs in 2015, he caught 87 passes for 1,088 yards and eight touchdowns. The year before that in Philly, he caught 85 passes for 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns.
