The Washington Redskins have another chief decision-maker in the front office. The team announced on Tuesday that it has promoted Doug Williams to senior VP of player personnel.

The move will team Williams up with president Bruce Allen and head coach Jay Gruden. All three will have say over the team’s final 53-man roster.
Williams, who made history in the 1980s in leading his Redskins to the Super Bowl title, has been an executive in the NFL for more than a decade now. Prior to joining the Redskins’ personnel department in 2014, Williams served as director of pro personnel for the Tampa Bay Bucccaneers.
As a player, Williams played 12 seasons in the NFL between Washington and Tampa Bay. He was named Super Bowl XXII MVP after leading the Redskins to a 42-10 win over the Denver Broncos.
This move comes months after Washington sent then general manager Scot McCloughan packing. It will be interesting to see exactly how Williams will fit into the Redskins’ new front office dynamic.
