Penn State will definitely be competing for the National Championship this upcoming season. The Nittany Lions put up a surprising 2016 campaign en route to a trip to the Rose Bowl.
Heading into 2017, expectations are that Penn State will be even better.
Though, the football program is going to turn back the clock for a game against Indiana in late September. It’s a way for the Nittany Lions to honor their past.
The theme will be circa 1950s, with the video boards being of the flip board variety from that long-gone era. The music on display will vary from the 1950s to current day.
In terms of Penn State’s uniforms, they will have numbers on their helmets with striped pants and striped socks.

“Penn State has such a great tradition and history and we wanted to find a way to honor and celebrate those “Generations of Greatness,'” Head Coach James Franklin said, via the team’s official website. “We are going to do so with a throwback game, where will have an old-school scoreboard and other game day activities and then again with the uniform and pulling elements from many different uniform design elements through the years.”
For a program that’s gone through so much over the past several years, this is a pretty cool idea. Some might question the decision, but why not pay homage to a distant past?
