Oscar De La Hoya calls Dana White ‘disrespectful’

Oscar De La Hoya

Oscar De La Hoya is not pleased with UFC boss Dana White.

While promoting the upcoming Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Álvarez superfight on ESPN’s “SportsCenter,” De La Hoya blasted White for scheduling the much talked about Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor bout on August 26, only three weeks ahead GGG vs. Álvarez fight.

“It was disrespectful,” De La Hoya said. “I would have thought that Dana White would have a little more respect with this boxing event taking place, because look, you just don’t do that. It’s like having the Super Bowl and then three weeks later the World Series takes place, the final game. It just doesn’t happen. … We have the whole year to stage these types of big events. They could have maybe staged it in November or December but, look, it is what it is. We have a superfight here. We have a real fight, and that’s exactly what we’re focusing on.”

De La Hoya has done little to hide his distaste for the Mayweather/McGregor match. Prior to calling blasting White, De La Hoya made it clear that he didn’t think McGregor would be any competition for Mayweather. In May, he also wrote a letter vehemently opposing the fight.

It’s clear from this that the drama in the fight world is not just limited to those in the ring. The promoters have plenty of bad things to say about each other, as well.
