Nationals select Dusty Baker’s son in 27th round of MLB Draft

Dusty Baker

In 2002, Darren Baker was three years old and involved in one of the most bizarre moments in World. On Thursday, the Washington Nationals took Baker — the son of manager Dusty Baker — in the MLB Draft.

Baker gained notoriety during Game 5 of the 2002 World Series. Serving as a bat boy for the San Francisco Giants, Baker went to retrieve a bat at the plate too early while the action was still live.

Fortunately, then Giants first baseman J.T. Snow got to the plate well before any play could have been made there. Thanks to some quick thinking and equally quick hands, disaster was averted.

Now, if you read that the younger Baker was drafted and all of a sudden felt really old, take comfort in one thing. You are not alone.
