LeBron James to produce NBA documentary for Showtime

LeBron James is coming off his seventh consecutive trip to the NBA Finals. He’s earned three titles and four NBA MVP awards. Arguably, he’s the greatest player to ever take a step on the hardwood.

But the 32-year-old James knows this career won’t last forever. It’s in this that he continues to make an impact off the court, specifically in the entertainment industry.

Space Jam, anyone?

Now, it looks like James is going even further into filmmaking. In association with famed filmmaker Gotham Chopra, James and his production company SpringHill Entertainment will produce a three-part documentary series on the modern history of the NBA for Showtime. It’s set to come out at some point next year.

“We developed the idea for these films because of the incredible, generational impact some of the NBA’s most successful players have had on every aspect of American culture,” SpringHill Entertainment CEO Maverick Carter said, via CBS Sports. “Gotham is the perfect filmmaker to bring these stories to life, and Showtime is the right platform to showcase how they were able to transcend the game and shape the culture in an unprecedented way.”

This is definitely going to be an interesting documentary feature. James understands the nuance of the NBA itself and has strong knowledge as it relates to the cultural relevancy of the game. It should be awesome to see the history of the Association through his eyes.
