Eli Manning not worried about Odell Beckham Jr.: ‘The guy’s a workhorse’

A source of abundant chatter during New York Giants OTAs was the absence of star receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

But Beckham’s quarterback, Eli Manning was not worried.

Manning spoke on “The Jim Rome Show” on CBS Radio Tuesday and made it clear that he trusts Beckham to do what’s best to get himself into shape.

“The guy’s a workhorse. He’s loves the training, he knows his body, he knows what he’s got to do to get ready and so he felt this was the best way for him to get prepared,” Manning said. “Sometimes as athletes, you know your body better than anyone else. You know what you need to do to get in the best shape and get the most work and that’s what he felt, and you have to support the guy, because he is working. He is doing the right things, and he is trying to get better.”

The only real concern from New York’s perspective would be if there was a genuine thought that he’d hold out of training camp. In that case, you’d have a problem. But generally speaking, that’s only a major concern if his absence is contract related. According to Beckham himself, that’s not the case.

Beckham’s been a handful at times, but he’s always produced big numbers for the Giants. If he has his own way of working himself into shape and getting ready for the season, it’s hard to go against it, especially if his teammates are okay with it.
