Derek Fisher comments about DUI arrest, crash

Derek Fisher

Derek Fisher was arrested for DUI over the weekend after flipping his Cadillac on Highway 101 in Southern California. The former NBA player and coach was driving, and his girlfriend, ormer Basketball Wives reality star Gloria Govan, was the lone passenger. Neither was seriously hurt, and thankfully it was a single-car accident.

TMZ Sports caught up with Fisher on Monday, and he briefly spoke about the arrest and crash.

“The most important part is that we’re here and that no one else was injured,” Fisher said. “So from here, just focusing on the positives.”

Fisher expressed similar sentiments in a joint statement with Govan, via ESPN.

“We are beyond grateful that we are both OK and no one else was involved,” Fisher and Govan said in a joint statement Sunday.

Additionally, the statement “thanked supporters for their thoughts and prayers.” But no mention of the DUI arrest was made.

Fisher served as an in-studio Los Angeles Lakers analyst for Spectrum SportsNet last NBA season. A five-time NBA champion with the Lakers, he played in the NBA for nearly two decades and spend some time as the head coach of the New York Knicks.
