Bill O’Brien: Deshaun Watson well prepared to run an offense

Will Deshaun Watson start for the Texans as a rookie?

Houston Texans rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson is definitely going to be in the mix for the starting job this upcoming season. He will be battling with veteran Tom Savage for snaps under center.

Now, as the Texans prep for training camp, it’s looking more and more like Watson may in fact be called on to lead the defending AFC South champions.

Just ask Texans head coach Bill O’Brien.

“He had to learn a pretty sophisticated offense at Clemson. He had to do a lot of things at the line of scrimmage. I think he was trained really well,” O’Brien said, via the Houston Chronicle. “That’s a credit to the Clemson staff. He’d already been in some big games when he got here. When he came here, he put his head down and came to work every day.”

If Watson were to earn the starting job, his primary focus would be to avoid turnovers. Houston boasts a stellar running game and one of the best defenses in the NFL.

The issue last season was that Brock Osweiler couldn’t avoid game-altering mistakes. If Watson proves he’s able to do that, it would not be a surprise to see him earn the starting job.
