Astros’ George Springer on skipping Home Run Derby: ‘I’m just not a fan of it’

Houston Astros outfielder George Springer entered this weekend’s action with 18 homers and 43 RBI. He’s been among the most-prolific power hitters in the game.

So it stands to reason that Springer would be invited to take part in the 2017 Home Run Derby. Unfortunately, it’s not something he’s terribly interested in.

“I’m just not a fan of it. I don’t like it. I’m not a Home Run Derby guy,” Springer said, via the Houston Chronicle. “I’m not going to do it.”

There’s been some debate around the baseball world about players taking part in the annual All-Star event. Could participating impact the ability of a player to get back to the basics once the second half the season comes calling? We’ve seen multiple stars struggle in live-game action immediately after taking part in the derby.

We’re not sure if that’s the reason Springer is avoiding the derby. But it’s readily apparent he’s just not a fan.
