Report: Yoenis Cespedes facing ‘extended’ absence, ‘a long shot’ to return in May

Yoenis Cespedes

The New York Mets might be without star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes for an extended period of time as he rehabs his hamstring injury.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported Cespedes as saying, “This one hurts.” He also noted that it might be “a long shot” for Cespedes to return in the month of May.

This is a crushing blow to a Mets team that is reeling at the moment and that also lost starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard to a lat injury for what could be up to three months, per Heyman.

Before his hamstring injury, Cespedes was up to his old tricks, wowing the masses with huge bombs from the batters box and tremendous plays in the outfield. He is batting .260 this year with six home runs and 10 RBI in the 18 games he has been able to play in 2017.

Meanwhile, New York is under the .500 mark with a record of 12-15, good for fourth place in the NL East. Needless to say, the Mets are behind the eight ball early this season.
