Report: Hawks likely to hire Warriors assistant to be new GM

Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks are looking to make a rather big move even before free agency starts this summer. After moving on from general manager Wes Wilcox earlier in the spring, it looks like Atlanta will be bringing in Golden State Warriors executive Travis Schlenk to the same role.

According to Yahoo Sports! NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Atlanta has decided on hiring the current Warriors assistant general manager and the two sides are discussing contract details.

Schlenk was promoted from assistant general manager to VP of basketball operations with the Warriors this season. He also maintained his old title under GM Bob Myers.

It’s not too surprising that the Hawks would look to add someone from Golden State’s organization. It’s considered one of the best front offices in the NBA and has helped the Warriors put up one of the most-dominating three-year runs in the history of the Association.

Schlenk spent 13 years with the Warriors. His experience should prove to be valuable for the Hawks as they look to improve off last season’s 43-39 record.
