Reggie Bush still wants to play in 2017

Free agent running back Reggie Bush is a player that has not been in news headlines in a while. Bush, who turned 32 in March, came out of the woodwork and said he still wants to play.

“That’s my plan,” Bush said on NFL Network’s Up To The Minute Live, per Kevin Patra of NFL.com. “Going into year 12, I still feel like I have a lot left to prove, a lot left to give this game before I’m done. I don’t want to put a number on how many years I have left. I think once you get past year 10, you just gotta take it one year at a time and go from there. I’m still excited, still looking forward to playing football again this season, still staying in shape, still working out. I plan to be somewhere in September.”

Whether there are any takers out there remains to be told. Bush’s career has taken a severe nosedive during his last three years in the league.

His last season with the Detroit Lions in 2014 was miserable. He put up only 297 rushing yards over 11 games. His stint with the San Francisco 49ers in 2015 was cut short when Bush sustained a season-ending knee injury in Week 5. Lastly, Bush was nearly invisible as a member of the Buffalo Bills in 2016. So much so, he nearly did the impossible by posting negative-three rushing yards for his yearly tally.

If any teams do reach out to Bush, they will be able to obtain him on the cheap considering his recent history. And, it sounds like Bush is perfectly okay with that.

“I think it depends. If you’re in it for the money, then it’s possible. But I started playing football when I was eight years old, and it’s always been a strong passion, and it’s always been a passion that’s never gonna leave. For me at this point, I’ve made plenty of money and it’s not about the money for me.”

Bush was a former No. 2 overall pick by the New Orleans Saints in the 2006 NFL Draft. If he never plays again at least he will retire as a one-time Super Bowl champion.
