A major scandal involving the North American Football League has been uncovered after a 15-month investigation into alleged fraud. The chairman of the NAFL, Christopher White, and his wife Tracy have been charged with grand theft.

“Christopher White, 46, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is charged with grand theft over $100,000 in the first degree,” wrote Kaylin Searles of FOX 17 News in Nashville. “His wife Tracy, 47, was charged with theft between $20,000 and $100,000. Both Whites are charged by Bay County, Fla. deputies with assistance from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.”

This is really a wild story.

White and his wife crafted an elaborate scheme that involved what appears to be quite a web of lies. They took money from investors, who were under the impression the North American Football League would first consist of eight teams that would eventually expand to 16 teams across the nation. It was supposed to open back in 2016.

The couple went to great lengths to create the image they were legitimate while defrauding investors out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

“Christopher White created logos for the team and created a website, in which he claimed he played and coached for the league and won a championship, deputies said. He even wore a ‘championship ring,’ which deputies said he used to gain trust and get money from investors.”

White and his wife also told investors they would be creating a production company that would “rival ESPN.”

Obviously none of that happened.

Now the couple is being held without bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. They have a hearing that is scheduled for June 14.
