John Harbaugh: Memorial Day may be most important holiday of year

John Harbaugh has strong feelings about Memorial Day. He sent his Baltimore Ravens players home to celebrate the national holiday with their friends and families.

“I told the guys go home and enjoy your families,” Harbaugh said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “It may be the most important holiday of the year. Do we all enjoy getting in a car and driving where we want, doing what we want? Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

The head coach has a strong sense of patriotism and has strongly supported the military in the past. He was part of a “NFL-USO coaches’ tour of the Middle East in 2009 and has visited numerous military bases in the United States and abroad (inducing another trip to the Middle East in 2014),” per Hensley.

Harbaugh has also been honored twice in the past for his commitment to the United States military, earning the U.S. Army’s Outstanding Civilian Service award in 2012 and the NFL’s Salute to Service award in 2013.

A recent paper his daughter was working on for school detailing the American Revolution helped remind Harbaugh once again how much Memorial Day means to him.

“Memorial Day, for all of the people that have sacrificed to give us the chance to live the way that we do in this country, is something that we should all be very grateful for.”

We here at Sportsnaut, like John Harbaugh, are also very grateful to all who have suffered and sacrificed for the sake of our freedom.
