Dodgers transfer Andrew Toles and Scott Kazmir to the 60-day disabled list

Scott Kazmir

Friday was a busy day for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The club claimed infielder Mike Freeman and pitcher Chris Heston from the Seattle Mariners. To make room, Andrew Toles and Scott Kazmir were moved to the 60-day disabled list.

Kazmir started the season on the disabled list and has yet to pitch at all in 2017. Still, since the date can be retroactive to the beginning of the season, the Dodgers can activate him shortly after he becomes healthy.

Toles being moved to the 60-day DL is not surprising, either. He tore his ACL early in May and as such, will likely not be seen again on a baseball field until 2018.

Both Freeman and Heston have split time between the Mariners and the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers in 2017.

Freeman has struggled at the plate in the majors in 2017, slashing at .067/.176/.167 with the Mariners. In Tacoma, though, he’s thrived, hitting .356/.424/.492.

It’s been a similar story for Heston, who’s been ineffective in two games for Seattle (19.80 ERA, 3.80 WHIP), but has enjoyed success in the minors (3.41 ERA, 1.17 WHIP). Los Angeles is hoping that Heston can find the form he had in the early portion of the 2015 season, which included throwing a no-hitter for the San Francisco Giants.
