Derek Carr ‘confident’ about landing new contract before training camp

Derek Carr

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is in line for a contract extension that has yet to be signed.

That leads to a question. Is the quarterback growing frustrated with his team? Some reports have suggested that he is. However, Oakland general manager Reggie McKenzie disputed there was any tension between the two sides (which you can read here), a sentiment Carr agreed with.

“I have an agent who is in charge of that and I am confident that he and Mr. (Reggie) McKenzie will work it out. I am only focused on becoming a better football player and helping my teammates become better players.” he said, per Anthony Galaviz of The Fresno Bee. “Carr adds, “I have complete faith it will get done before training camp. These things take time. The Raiders know I want to be here; this is my family, and I know they want me to be their quarterback.”

That’s certainly a rational take on Carr’s part.

Carr clearly loves the Raiders and has been devoted to the team since before he was ever drafted. So, he’s certainly in no hurry to leave, nor is he interested in holding the franchise hostage with the threat of leaving.

Even still, this will remain one of the NFL’s top stories to follow until the extension is signed. Carr was one of the NFL’s best players a season ago and has been an integral part of the Raiders’ franchise turnaround.

Given the high profile of his position, Carr being paid under market value will be an inescapable story until that extension is finally signed.
