Brad Stevens: Draymond Green wrong about Kelly Olynyk being ‘dirty’

Kelly Olynyk

It was kind of amusing Monday when Draymond Green called Kelly Olynyk a dirty player — a notion Brad Stevens clearly disagrees with.

Green called out Olynyk on his Dray Day podcast.

“I don’t respect guys like that,” Green said of Olynyk (via Marcus Thompson II of the Mercury News). “I mean, I know he’s not like the greatest basketball player of all time, so maybe you feel like you got to like do that, but you don’t like—just dirty. Like I don’t respect that man, he dirty.”

For most of us, this was one of those pot-kettle moments. Green has been called a dirty player on more than one occasion, thanks to his propensity to kick players in the jewels (like this).

Responding to Green’s assertion that Olynyk is a dirty player, Boston’s head coach disagreed.

“I’m around Kelly every day,” Stevens said Monday, per ESPN.com’s Chris Forsberg. “I don’t agree with [Green’s] assessment.”

While we’re 100-percent sure Kelly Oubre would disagree with Stevens, it’s clear from our vantage point that Olynyk isn’t dirty. He might be a bit plodding and one of the least impressive athletes on the floor on any given night, but he’s not out there intentionally trying to hurt guys on the regular.

It’s just too bad the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics aren’t likely to get a chance to play against one another this postseason. At this point, it sure looks like we’re going to get another Cleveland Cavaliers appearance in the NBA Finals, with Golden State being the likely challenger for the third year in a row.
