Yankees expect Didi Gregorius back ‘sometime in the next series’

Didi Gregorius

A right shoulder injury landed New York Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius on the disabled list. At the time, he was said to be out the entire month of April.

That timeline has held fairly true. According to Eric Boland of Newsday Sports, Gregorius will play Wednesday night in a rehab game and will join the Yankees “sometime in the next series,” which will be played against the Baltimore Orioles. Manager Joe Girardi confirmed the news.

The 27-year-old originally left Team Netherlands during the World Baseball Classic with an initial diagnosis of a “hematoma of the subcapsular muscle.”

He returns for his 2017 debut. Gregorius finished his 2016 campaign slashing a .276/.304/.447 line with 20 home runs and 70 RBI.
