WATCH: Miguel Sano throws punch as benches clear in Twins-Tigers game

Minnesota Twins slugger Miguel Sano is a big man. The 23-year-old stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 260 pounds. That’s a linebacker frame on a MLB player.

So when Sano gets angry, it’s probably best not to cross paths with him. Someone should have told this to Detroit Tigers catcher James McCann when the two teams faced off on Saturday. After seeing Tigers pitcher Matthew Boyd throw the ball behind him in the fifth inning, Sano took exception.

He attempted to charge the mound before being held back by McCann, at which point the Twins’ power hitter threw what has to be considered a weak punch in McCann’s direction. This came after the Tigers’ backstop put his glove in Sano’s face.

Here’s the video of the altercation.

Sano and Boyd were both tossed from the game. As it relates to Boyd, his pitch was seen as retaliation for what transpired earlier in  the game when Twins reliever Justin Haley hit JaCoby Jones in the face (more on that here).

Yeah, this is most definitely not what baseball should be about. It was downright ugly on both sides.
