Warriors invite members of ‘We Believe’ team to playoff game

Warriors Oracle Arena

In 2007, the Golden State Warriors took the basketball world by storm. For the first time in 13 years, the Warriors made the playoffs. Once there, they eliminated the No. 1 overall seed — the 67-win Dallas Mavericks — in the first round. They were dubbed the “We Believe” team.

The 2017 Warriors will invite four players from that team to attend a second-round game.

“Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington have reportedly been invited to attend a playoff game and get a 10-year anniversary ovation,” Daniel Mano of Bay Area News Group wrote.” Those “We Believe” Warriors will be at a second-round game, as reported first by KNBR’s Murph & Mac.”

Of the four invited players, Jackson is the only one who has responded to the invite, stating unequivocally that he will be there. Though, per Mano, the other three players all have good relationships with the team now. So, barring a scheduling conflict, it’s hard to imagine that they won’t join Jackson at a game this upcoming series.

Matt Barnes will also attend any reunion as a member of the current Golden State team. When he re-signed with the Warriors, Barnes posted an Instagram picture of himself, Davis, and Jackson on the floor together.

After defeating the Mavericks 4-2 in the first round, the “We Believe” team was eliminated 4-1 by the Utah Jazz in the second round of the 2007 playoffs.

But despite the relatively short postseason trip and the success of the team in recent years, the 2007 Warriors still hold a special place in the hearts of the team’s fans. Following 1994’s playoff season, the 2007 team was the only Golden State team to make the playoffs until the Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green led team returned in 2013.
