Steve Kerr present at arena in Game 4

Steve Kerr

Steve Kerr is out indefinitely with extreme pain and discomfort related to the back injury that required surgery last year. But he’s at least able to be in the arena Monday night as the Golden State Warriors attempt to close out the Portland Trail Blazers on the road.

As Anthony Slater of the San Jose Mercury News passed along, Mike Brown said the two were able to discuss the gameplan and that “It’s good to see him here.”

Sunday afternoon, Kerr met with media to discuss his health issues a bit.

“You guys saw me at the end of Game 2, I was very uncomfortable,” Kerr said, per Slater. “I was uncomfortable at practice the other day. With things getting worse, I decided I couldn’t coach. So as of now, I’m consulting with my doctors, hoping for some improvement and if I get improvement, I’ll get back on the sidelines. But I’m not going to do that until I know I can help the team.”

Without Kerr on the sideline in Game 3 Saturday, Golden State put up 119 points against the Trail Blazers, winning by six points. They played the past two games without Kevin Durant, who is playing in Game 4, winning those games by a combined total of 35 points.

Hopefully Kerr can return to the sideline at some point this postseason. Though, if any team is equipped to handle his absence it’s the Warriors, who are as battle tested as any team out there. And based on this latest development, it sounds like Kerr is going to be at least available behind the scenes, even if he isn’t able to guide his team from the coach’s chair.
