Is Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell joking about sitting out the 2017 season?

Le'Veon Bell

If you’re a serious person with serious intentions, you might not want to pick April 1st as the day to make those intentions known to the world. That’s only taken to a whole new level when you are the face of one of the most-popular teams in the NFL.

Earlier on Saturday, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell tweeted out that he would rather sit out the 2017 season than play under the franchise tag.

That was taken with a grain of salt considering the tweet was sent on April Fool’s Day. Hours later, Bell returned to the social media site to clarify his stance.

This could very well be just another layer to Bell attempting to prank the entire football world. It could also very well be that Bell is 100 percent serious.

Should Bell sign the franchise tag Pittsburgh handed him, he will earn $12.1 million next season. Though, that type of contract surely doesn’t offer him the long-term security he’s seeking.

Bell, 25, is coming off a ridiculous 2016 campaign that saw him put up 1,884 total yards in just 12 games. He’s the most-electric running back on the planet and surely wants to be paid like it.

Though, next time, Bell might want to wait until April 2nd to sends a message like this. Time will tell whether he is serious.
