Report: Broncos ‘having a problem’ with Paxton Lynch’s work ethic

Paxton Lynch

All the best NFL quarterbacks have one thing in common aside from possessing the skills requisite for the job — they work harder than anyone else. They’re the first to arrive at team facilities and the last to leave. Apparently, that’s something second-year Denver Broncos quarterback Paxton Lynch isn’t on board with just yet.

Speaking with Shan and RJ show on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM] (via SportsDay), former NFL scout and current DallasCowboys.com writer Ryan Broaddus passed along some interesting information on this topic.

“I talked to some guys in Denver; they’re having a problem with Paxton Lynch right now because they can’t get him to buy into the things like Dak Prescott bought in, where early in late out, that kind of thing.”

Now, we’ve made it clear that it’s not smart to believe everything you read in the weeks leading up to the NFL draft.

But realistically Broaddus has nothing to gain by spreading false information here. The Broncos and Cowboys both wanted Lynch leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft, but Denver ultimately leap-frogged the ‘Boys by trading up to land him with the No. 26 overall pick out of Memphis. Obviously, the Cowboys ended up making out like bandits, landing Dak Prescott in the fourth round.

Lynch is going to be in an open competition with last year’s starter, Trevor Siemian, for the job this summer. And while head coach Vance Joseph says it’s completely wide open, given the currency the Broncos gave up to land him we have to believe Denver wants Lynch to wrestle the job away from his competitor.

It’s worth pointing out, however, that Siemian was not a great college quarterback at Northwestern and was only drafted because Gary Kubiak saw something he liked. So if Lynch cannot win the job this summer, then perhaps there really is something to this report about his work ethic.

Last season, Lynch completed just 49-of-83 passing attempts for 497 yards, two touchdowns and one interception over three games.
