NFL scout compares Davis Webb to Dak Prescott

Davis Webb

The days leading up to the annual NFL Draft represent silly time. Teams make it known they’re targeting players they have no real intention of drafting. Talk about squads trading up and down the board becomes prevalent.

Heck, certain prospects seems to believe it makes sense to compare themselves to the greatest the game of football has seen take the field.

Yes, it is certainly an odd time on the NFL offseason schedule.

This started a few weeks back when former CAL quarterback Davis Webb declared that multiple NFL teams told him that he was a first-round pick. Of course, that was met with a bit of skepticism from those around the football world.

Webb has one year of high-level college starting experience and played in a spread offense at Berkeley. In no way does this translate to him being an immediate Day 1 starter in the NFL.

With that said, at least one prominent national scout has likened Webb to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

That’s some mighty high praise, especially considering Prescott is coming off a historical rookie season that saw him compile 29 total touchdowns compared to four interceptions en route to leading Dallas to the NFC East title.

The quarterback class is a bit muddied heading into Thursday’s first round. The first player off the board at that position could go as high as No. 1 overall to the Cleveland Browns. That would likely be North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky. There’s also a scenario in play here that suggests no quarterback will be taken in the top 10.

As it relates to Webb, he’s seen as being in the second tier of quarterbacks with the likes of DeShone Kizer and Brady Kaaya. Though, it seems that he’s generating a ton of first-round buzz.

In this, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a quarterback-needy team picking in the top of the second round trade up to the bottom of the first to acquire his services.

How the quarterback situation plays out is among the burning questions heading into the NFL Draft. Some experts have their predictions as to what might happen here, but we will all find out soon enough.

At the very least, it promises to be extremely interesting.
