Leonard Fournette slims down to 228 pounds for LSU pro day

NFL Draft rumors, Leonard Fournette is one of the most overhyped players in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Maybe it really was water weight. After showing up to the combine at 240 pounds, Leonard Fournette weighed in at 228 pounds Wednesday at his pro day.

This is much closer to what he likely weighed on game days during his tenure at LSU. The power back wowed even at 240 pounds when he ran his 40-yard dash in 4.51 seconds at the combine, though he didn’t particularly impress on other drills that day.

Still, after his impressive runs, there were rumors that more teams would be itching to move up into the top five to draft him. One of those teams could very well be the Carolina Panthers, who are apparently enamored with him and are rumored to be interested in moving up to No. 2 overall in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers (more on that here).

Out on the practice field at LSU, Fournette went through on-field drills on Wednesday, content to let his combine 40 time speak for itself.

Of more concern than his weight, Fournette’s ankle injury last year — one that’s been described as a chronic condition — should give teams pause about drafting him overly high. A veritable runaway freight train when he’s healthy, one wonders how many productive years in the NFL he’ll be able to provide a team.
