John Ross says he’d beat Usain Bolt in the 40-yard dash

John Ross, 2017 NFL Draft

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross has no shortage of confidence in his ability to fly down the track. After being selected No. 9 overall in the draft, the rookie to be made a rather bold claim while comparing his speed to that of multiple gold-medal winner Usain Bolt.

“I would compare my speed to Usain Bolt’s just basically using the same technology that (ESPN’s) Sport Science did. They said I have faster foot contact than him, he has longer strides,” Ross said Thursday, via NFL.com. “I think it would definitely be a good race. In the 40-yard dash, I think I would get Usain Bolt. Usain Bolt, I know I can get you in the 40. Whenever you want to meet me up, we can do it.”

We’d love to see that race.

Bolt, as most are likely aware, is a world record holder in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, along with being a member of a 4 x 100-meter relay team that broke the world record.

Yeah, he’s fast.

Ross is fast, too. He broke Chris Johnson’s combine record by running his 40-yard dash in 4.22 seconds this February (watch here).

The receiver’s frame is significantly slighter than that of Bolt, who is a lanky runner who builds up steam as he chugs along. But if the two speedsters did line up side by side on the same track for a mad dash, we have no little doubt the Jamaican sprinter would come out on top.
