DeAndre Hopkins joins Tom Savage by taking shot at Brock Osweiler

DeAndre Hopkins

Tom Savage had something interesting to say Monday about the Houston Texans quarterback room, minus Brock Osweiler, in 2017. Speaking minutes after his quarterback, receiver DeAndre Hopkins also threw some serious shade Osweiler’s way.

Now, it’s important to note that neither player specifically mentioned Osweiler, but their meaning was as clear as Rotomairewhenua — Osweiler caused trouble in the locker room and didn’t do his job on the field.

Of course, this isn’t exactly a news flash. Osweiler and head coach Bill O’Brien got into numerous fights, a couple of them well publicized. He also wasn’t able to perform to the level that was expected of him when the team signed him to a four-year, $72 million deal before the 2016 season, throwing 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions while completing 59 percent of his passes.

Whether Savage can do better this year remains to be seen, but it’s hard to imagine he’ll do any worse.

On another note, no wonder Houston was so eager to offload Osweiler, giving up a precious second-round pick in return for dumping him and his salary.
