Danny Amendola takes huge paycut to return to Patriots

Danny Amendola

With the addition of Brandin Cooks, the emergence of Chris Hogan and the always steady Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola has almost seemed like an afterthought among the New England Patriots receivers coming off of his Super Bowl LI heroics.

Despite that, Amendola will be back in New England. But he’ll be taking significantly less money than he was due to make.

While it’s a huge pay cut, Amendola will be making slightly more in 2017 than he did in 2016.

The 2017 season will be Amendola’s fifth with New England.

Statistically, 2016 was one of his worst. While Amendola did have a career high four touchdown receptions, he caught only 23 passes for 243 yards, the second and third worst totals of his career, respectively.

But Amendola came alive in the Super Bowl and was an integral part of the Patriots’ comeback against the Atlanta Falcons. Trailing 28-12, he scored on a six-yard touchdown pass. Then, after a James White touchdown cut the Atlanta lead to 28-26, Tom Brady found Amendola to convert the ensuing two-point conversion to tie the game. In total, he caught eight passes for 78 yards.
