The Houston Astros may have a somewhat deep pitching staff, but the team will surely miss top-end starter Collin McHugh here over the short term. It was announced on Saturday that Houston will shut McHugh down for the next six weeks with an elbow injury.

The 29-year-old starter has earned a team-high 43 wins over the past three seasons, pitching to a solid 3.71 ERA with 505 strikeouts in 543 innings during that span.

With McHugh out, Mike Fiers will continue to be a member of Houston’s five man rotation.

As it relates to McHugh, the expectation here is that he won’t be returning to the hill before June. If that’s the case, Houston’s depth will surely be brought into question throughout the first two-plus months of the season.
