WATCH: Aaron Hicks and Tommy Joseph combine for hilarious double blooper

Yankees right fielder Aaron Hicks is congratulated in the dugout

You never know what you might see at the baseball field. During the Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Yankees game, Aaron Hicks and Tommy Joseph have combined for one of spring training’s better bloopers.

It started innocently enough. Hicks reached first base. Then pitcher Jeremy Hellickson decided to keep him honest by throwing over to first base. But on a fairly standard play, we got a rare thing. Not one, but two bloopers.

Hicks attempted to dive back into first base. But his leap was stalled by what must have been a pile of thick syrup on the ground, as he ended up well short of the bag.

What happened next is a matter of opinion.

Option 1: Joseph was very coy and tried to play possum with Joseph, the opposing first baseman.

Option 2: The embarrassment of the play rendered him temporarily, but completely stiff.

At any rate, Joseph paused temporarily, perhaps assuming that Hicks was safe. By the time he realized how far off of the bag was, Hicks had time to get back safely.

Watch the whole exchange for yourself here.

One thing is certain. Neither Hicks or Joseph will be allowed to forget that any time soon.
