Warriors provide injury update on Kevin Durant, who could play this season

Kevin Durant

On Wednesday afternoon, the Golden State Warriors provided an update on Kevin Durant’s progress rehabilitating from a sprained MCL which has kept him out for the month of March.

“At this point, [Durant] is being incorporated into non-contact basketball drills,” the statement reads in part.

The big news comes at the end, when it says “He will be re-evaluated again in 7-10 days” and mentions Durant could play before the end of the regular season.

The regular season ends on April 12, so its getting close to crunch time here. It seems like everything is going to hinge on that next evaluation. In an ideal world for Golden State, Durant returns for the last couple games of the regular season, spends the first round getting back to full speed as the Warriors roll over the Portland Trail Blazers or Denver Nuggets. This would mean the team is at full strength by the time they play the Utah Jazz or Los Angeles Clippers in the second round.

However, if that evaluation goes badly, the entire season is thrown into doubt. If Durant is not at full strength by the second round, the Warriors could be in trouble. They’ll need Durant to get by Utah and, looking further ahead, the Houston Rockets or San Antonio Spurs as well. In short, the overall outcome of the season may hinge upon the upcoming evaluation.
