Vikings announce linebacker Chad Greenway is retiring

Chad Greenway

Chad Greenway has been a member of the Minnesota Vikings the past 10 years, and at the age of 34 he’s ready to move onto the next phase of his life.

The Vikings announced Monday that Greenway is retiring from the NFL. He will officially announce the move in a Tuesday press conference.

Greenway was originally a first-round pick by the Vikings (No. 17 overall) in 2006 out of Iowa. Unlike so many players in this era, Greenway never played for any other team, spending his entire 10-year career with the team that drafted him.

He finishes his career having started 144 games and tallied the fourth-highest tackle tally in franchise history (1,334). Greenway also notched 11 career interceptions, 18 sacks, eight forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdowns.

During the course of his career, Greenway was voted to two Pro Bowls and earned Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2012.
