Richard Sherman on trade talk: ‘I just laugh it off, man’

Richard Sherman

An interesting report broke earlier this month suggesting that the Seattle Seahawks would entertain the idea of trading Richard Sherman for the right price (more on that here).

It was a stunning revelation, one that was met with widespread skepticism. Why would Seattle trade an All Pro corner that’s in the prime of his career? What team could even begin to offer up the massive bounty it would require to open trade discussions?

Now speaking up about the rumor, Sherman himself seems rather amused.

“I just laugh it off, man,” Sherman told ESPN. “It’s funny to me. But sometimes people need to see you gone to realize what you had. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. But I don’t let things like that bother me. The chips will fall how they’re supposed to.”

Now, one could easily interpret this as Sherman being amused by Seattle actually placing him on the block. Then again, it could be more about the rumor itself.

As it is, the 28-year-old Sherman is unlikely to be traded this offseason. He has two years remaining on a team-friendly deal that will pay him a combined $27 million. You simply don’t trade an asset like this in today’s NFL.

Should a trade actually happen, we’re sure the always outspoken Sherman will have a lot more to say about it.
