Report: Top GM candidates not interested in Redskins job due to Daniel Snyder

The Washington Redskins remain in utter turmoil following a disappointing 2016 season. Just as free agency was getting going earlier this month, the team fired general manager Scot McCloughan amid leaks from the organization that his drinking had become a problem.

That came around the same time that Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins was apparently telling anyone who would listen that he wants to play for the San Francisco 49ers and wouldn’t even discuss an extension with Washington if Bruce Allen were still the team’s president.

In between all this, a certain Redskins running back found out he was tendered a contract via social media. If that weren’t enough, suggestions are that the Redskins, who have already lost their two starting receivers in free agency, released a valuable defender because he spoke out about the situation in D.C (more on that here).

Now that we’re caught up, it really shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that top-level general manager candidates are not interested in the Redskins’ job. In fact, some have refused to even interview with owner Daniel Snyder and Co.

“Several of Washington’s targets have already bailed out at the initial stage — disinterested in even interviewing for the job — because of concerns over how Snyder has run the team and the over-reaching powers of Bruce Allen, the team president,” CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora reported Thursday.

To top all of this off with a cute little bow, the Redskins are apparently offering up just $1.5 million annually to perspective GM candidates. That’s not exactly a pay scale that would attract the best of the best.

Needless to say, things are not going swimmingly in the nation’s capital. It sure looks like Bruce Allen will be the one calling the shots when the draft comes calling next month. This, if he’s even a member of the team’s front office at that point.
