Report: Paul George wants to play with Gordon Hayward

NBA draft, Paul George trade

It’s seeming more likely that the Indiana Pacers and All-Star forward Paul George are headed for an ugly divorce. When that happens is anyone’s guess, but recent indications are that George himself wants out of dodge.

If that’s the case, at least one report suggests that George would like to play with Utah Jazz forward Gordon Hayward.

“George would love to play with hometown boy Gordon Hayward, according to sources,” ESPN’s Zach Lowe reported this week.

The star wing has shown displeasure with the lack of identity and chemistry on the Pacers’ roster this season. These comments came after a drama-filled month of February that saw George find himself on the trade block and show some major issues with how the Pacers communicated with him during the process (more on that here).

George is not set to become a free agent until after the 2017-18 season. Though, there’s surely a scenario in play here where he could be traded during the summer.

As it relates to Hayward, he’s in the midst of a tremendous season with the Jazz. He is slated to become a free agent after the season.

Though, that in and of itself could change if Hayward were to earn All-NBA team honors, giving him a huge raise on his current contract should he not opt out.

Nonetheless, it’s interesting that specifics are now coming out regarding who George might see himself playing with moving forward.
