Report: Mutual interest between Brandon Marshall and the Patriots

Brandon Marshall

The defending champion New England Patriots could very well use a solid possession receiver to go with Julian Edelman and Chris Hogan. Six-time Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall is in need of a new team after the New York Jets released him earlier this week.

So it stands to reason that Marshall and the Patriots would be linked to one another. That’s only magnified by the fact that the soon-to-be 33-year-old receiver wants to play for a contender.

According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, there’s mutual interest between the two sides.

Marshall put up one of the worst performances of his career this past season, tallying 59 receptions for 788 yards and three touchdowns. It was just the third time in his 11-year NFL career that Marshall failed to reach the 1,000-yard plateau.

Though, most of that had to do with a disastrous quarterback situation in New Jersey which saw three different quarterbacks combine for 16 touchdowns compared to 25 interceptions. With solid quarterback play, Marshall is still a borderline No. 1 receiver in the NFL.

It remains to be seen whether this will come to fruition, but Marshall seems to be a perfect fit for what the Patriots need on offense. It will all likely come down to his asking price.
