Report: Browns will not pursue Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick

With San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick set to opt out of his contract and become a free agent, there promises to be a ton of rumors swirling around NFL circles over the next several weeks.

An enigmatic figure off the field, Kaepernick put up a solid season for San Francisco in 2016. He tallied 18 total touchdowns compared to four interceptions once taking over the starting job from Blaine Gabbert.

Though, we’re not entirely too sure there will be a huge market for the quarterback’s services in free agency. We can also now cross the Cleveland Browns off the list of potential suitors.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns will not pursue Kaepernick in free agency.

“The Browns might soon be heartbroken by Jimmy Garoppolo, but they won’t pursue 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick on the rebound despite Hue Jackson’s heavy interest last year,” Cabot reported on Wednesday.

It’s an interesting development considering the Browns had engaged in trade talks with San Francisco regarding Kaepernick last offseason. It also goes without saying that the Browns, coming off a one-win season, are in need of an upgrade under center.

Kaepernick’s market might be a bit clouded by the national anthem protest he led around the NFL this past season. If this is an indication, one team that previously had interest no longer views him as an option.
