Redskins re-sign Vernon Davis to three-year contract

Geoff Burke, USA Today Sports

The Washington Redskins have apparently re-signed former Pro Bowl tight end Vernon Davis to a three-year contract. Davis took to social media early Wednesday morning to announce the news.

It was also confirmed through Davis’ Snapchat account.

Davis, 33, put up a rebound performance for his home-town Redskins this past year after struggling through two-plus seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos.

The two-time Pro Bowl performer tallied 44 receptions for 583 yards and two touchdowns, helping Washington overcome another injury-plagued season from starting tight end Jordan Reed. Davis also caught an astounding 75 percent of the balls thrown in his direction while averaging north of 13 yards per reception.

This is a relatively big move for the Redskins prior to the start of free agency. A healthy Reed teaming up with Davis could spell trouble for NFC East foes moving forward.
